Adobe announces Photoshop / Creative Suite CS6
The standard word for post processing and manipulating photos is photoshop, so when Adobe launches a new version it’s worth finding out a little more.
New versions of software are not without fault, and as usual it seems that of all the good things in the new software the bad thing is actually the price, and it’s not much help when the “industry standard” US dollar converts to almost one pound 🙁 I mean how can the same software delivered over the internet cost £46.88 / month ($73.30 at today’s rate) in the UK, and $49.99 / month (£30.06 at today’s rate)? However if you have children in school / college / university make sure to check out the Adobe stores for students for somewhat more appealing prices as shown below.
One thing that may also be interesting is that some folks may be selling off old copies of CS3 / Cs4 / CS5 on ebay so keep an eye out for deals there, but always be careful buying software like this as there’s plenty of dodgy copies out there.
So are you planning an upgrade??
We currently have Web Premium CS3 and have been looking at the upgrade options to take that to CS6 and you’re looking around £950!
This makes the Subscription to the Master Suite look appealing, especially as we can get the first year for £27.34 pcm. The major problem here is that if we stop paying £562 a year after the first year, then we would have to revert back to CS3!
If we want to upgrade the normal way, we run out of options at the end of the year when the only way to upgrade to CS6 is to own CS5! If we want to take up the reduced subscription offer (as we own CS3) we have to do it by August 31st.
Thought about being a student to get student rates but a course at Aylesbury college is £900 and Web Premium is £300 for only one license, when all the other options give us 2 licenses (desktop & laptop).
Decisions, decsions!
What is everyone else thinking?
I’m currently on CS5, bought as a student (OU T189 Digital Photography last year) and given I’m now a degree student with the Open College of Arts doing photography, I’d expect to still get the student price. Main thing for me is to understand what I’d be getting out of upgrading, just been sent a link to Scott Kelby’s blog with an article about what CS6 offers photographers so going to give it a good read.
On the subject of being classed a student, for anyone else of that status, if you’re interested in playing with HDR you can buy the excellent Photomatix at 70% off, I bought the full version and it was less than £25!!!
