Start with just one light
The second session of the studio workshop challenged all the photographers to take photos with just the one studio light.
If you think you need two lights, use one light, and if you think you need three lights then use one light- Frank Doorhof |www.frankdoorhof.com
Thanks to the range of kit present there were single lights with softboxes, beauty dishes, umbrellas, simple reflectors, reflectors with grids and some more specialist high performance reflectors with added translucent deflectors. Then mix in a great selection of patient models, all seven of them! For some of the pictures silver or gold pop-up reflectors were also used to add light in the shadows.
Here’s a couple of pictures from the workshop folks, if you’d like to have your’s added to the page please send them to the chairman (at) imagezcameraclub.co.uk please.
Coming up session #3 high key & session #4 film noir
Next challenge high key lighting, where the challenge is to light backgrounds and models for a histogram that is predominantly to the right of the centre of the scale. For the fourth session then it’s time for film noir style lighting, tightly controlled, dark shadows and another different challenge.
