Hi Folks,
Portrait Evening, Tuesday 2nd May
It was something slightly different for me last night sitting on the other side of the fence being a model.
Brian had set up four modelling areas in each of the four corners of the hall, two of which were set up with standard single lighting with reflectors for all cameras to try out. The other two lighting stations were set up where the lighting was activated by remote devices fitted on the camera ‘hot shoe’.
Only Emma was a professional model and three other members, Chris, Melissa and myself were ‘Press ganged’ asked but never received the King’s shilling and must have offered our services during a moment of madness lol.
Brian explained to get the best results during the evening was to raise the ISO up to around 2000 and have a reasonable F setting on ones camera.
If anybody had wanted I had brought along a fishing umbrella and some fishing gear in case somebody wanted to replicate a previous evening’s demonstration and talk. I also had an old Kodak Brownie as a prop.
So after Brian’s talk I was assigned along with Melissa to one of the more complicated setups in the corner. We had to act as if we were two characters from ABBA in one of the poses before individual shots of us were eventually required.
This is when I think I felt the first signs of my cattiness in modelling coming on, noticing the hundreds of shots being taken of Emma.
I had my Dark Obsession Cologne and had combed my hair but didn’t have the ‘make up’ that Emma had for the part and me just having a photographer asking me to pose as if I was Madonna in Vogue. ‘Can I do the Vogue stance’ but my brain was thinking did they say ‘Vain’.
It’s difficult to know how much to smile in posing and my face wanting to do it’s own thing but found the stern look and the James Bond pose a lot easier to act out.
Towards the end of the evening I was thinking perhaps a stall with selection of party nibbles would attract more people around me lol.
‘Do we have any props’ a voice asked, ‘Well I have my Brownie’ or a fishing umbrella to do a Danny Kaye’. ‘The Brownie’ will do, came the reply. I then held the Brownie across my face pretending to take 35mm slides of the photographer ready to send off to Bonus Print.
However, I had noticed Emma had an expensive scarf as her prop to hid part of her face lol
As my final rush died down I was able to pop across to take a few pictures of Emma who was still in high demand. The intelligent mode on my camera was taking the pictures far too bright for my liking.
so it was into manual mode to adjust my settings too dark lol.
But all came good
Thank you to Emma and Melissa for their patience in modelling for us
An interesting evening for me and hope everyone enjoyed Brian’s evening on Portrait Photography
