Hi Folks,
Last night we had an experimental critique night for new members who would like some input from the Judge on their images but preferred not to have them marked.
Our Judge for the evening was John Credland. There were six entries in the critique category
The first of these was a scene in a valley in Scotland. The scene changes with the weather conditions and here the photographer had managed to get the rustic mode with the ginger bracken. The white cottage just makes the picture said John and if there had been a plume of smoke coming out of the chimney it would have been perfect.
This would score highly in competition said John
There were seven entries in the print competion
The first of these to get an 18 was:
Escalator blur
Could be at John Lewis or an art gallery said John, the print had a black ‘keyline’ edge which was absolutely right. The guy waiting is in black & white and the people on the escalator in a coloured blur
The second to get an 18 was;
Sunset on bird island
Cormorants sitting and waiting in the tree at sunset and the silhouettes of the birds are very clean. The sun is in the perfect place and would be that colour for the effect.
Several got a mark of 17 but of those
Chilly morning was the preferred choice of the judge to complete the three with the breath of the stag seen coming out of his mouth
So the result of the Print competition was;
1st Escalator blur by John Timbrell
2nd Sunset on Bird Island by Kathy Chantler
3rd Chilly Morning by Chenxi Ni
We had a coffee break before a run though of the digital images
The first to be held back by John was;
Golden Autumn
John loved the colours of the leaves lit by the sun
The second to be held back was;
Italian Steam Punks
John thought they had not fully embraced the part by only wearing googles but they had cheeky grins and the image was nice and sharp
The next to be held back was;
Scaleber force
a nice rock formation at the bottom taken with a tripod
The next to be held back was;
Over the sticks
Could be a point to point meeting said John, he had a friend who photographed at Towcester and waited till the first horse’s nose was down before taking his picture. This is a different way of taking it to his, a very atmospheric picture
The next to be held back was;
On the beach at twilight
an interesting look which appears to be black & white with the sky coloured blue. Some enhancement which is deep inside lightroom that is not known about by many said John.
The last to be held back was;
Electric Staircase
It must have been taken at 6am on a Sunday morning for it to be that quiet or perhaps CrossRail. Such a marvellous feat of engineering in concrete and steel
So of the six held back John gave us this result
1st Golden Autumn by Clive Hirst, 20 points
2nd Scaleber Force by Clive Hirst, 20 points
3rd Electric Staircase by Chris Andrews, 20 points
also
On the beach at twilight by Nick Razey, 19 point
Over the sticks by Kathy Chantler, 19 points
Italian Steam Punks by Steve Beckett, 19 points
