Winner On the Night #1
Tuesday October 4, 2022
The first competition of the season started well with twenty-six people entering a total of seventy-six images. Quite a task for our judge Micki Aston. However, Micki’s wealth of experience and knowledge meant she presented with positive encouragement for all, amazing insight, clarity to explain steps to improve an image, and entertaining feedback. Time was managed very well also, despite the number of images to get through. There was a large audience for this evening.
Some of the judges’ comments were tips we can all remember when looking at photographs before entering them in competition.
“The crop tool is probably the most valuable tool in our box of editing tools”
“When taking a photograph always remember to look around the edges of the frame before pressing the shutter”
“Monochrome images must show a good tonal range.”
“Monochrome images are about shape and form.”
“Simplicity often makes good art”
There was a wealth of good images and Micki selected many images deciding on Commended, Highly Commended and First, Second, and Third place. She found this extremely difficult she said due to so many images being very good.
The variety of images ranged from Landscapes, Still Life, Wildlife, Portraits, Creative, and Urban Landscape.
The evening slipped by quickly and was enjoyed by all.
Third—Birchington on Sea Tony Cashen
Second— We are family Laurence Doyle
