Tuesday 14th October
Tuesday evening was the member’s chance to show older images that had a particular meaning for them. Each member could enter three images. They were asked to say a little about the image. The evening was very entertaining and interesting with a variety of images from the back catalogues.
Here’s a selection of images from the various authors who entered.
Here is a summary of some images shown by every member who entered.
- Alun began by showing us an image of Drop Cole Yard which is behind Kings Cross station, London where they hold a Boot Fair, where classic cars also gather. His image featured a very smart green classic car and a couple looking at leather jackets. Alun explained he enjoys street photography and was impressed with the car especially its colour.
- Carol ‘s image showed two people on the Uros islands on Lake Titicaca lifting their house to lay another floor of reeds which they dry and use for houses, boats and the island itself. She loved her visit to this island as it was so interesting to see another way of life.
- Chris D’netto showed us an early morning image of a man with a horse washing him in the sea she said she entered this image as it was atmospheric, and she enjoyed the light in the photograph.
- Damon chose three images taken locally. His first image ‘After the Rain’ was taken, he said on the edge of a change of weather from storm to sunlight. Again, the image was very striking with good light.
- David Gibbs enjoys still life photography and his entry Sparkling Wine was a cocktail glass with two strawberries lit only by a sparkler against a dark background.
- Derek’s image ‘Over the wall’ ‘was an action image of young people getting over a high wall during an obstacle race which included his son. He said he had chosen this image as he was able to improve the image with more modern processing equipment from the time he had taken it .
- John also chose an image he had taken whilst on a walking holiday in Southern India. The image was taken of his guide Harish and family in Harish’s house where the only light was coming through a glass less window. The light caught the sides of the families’ beautiful faces.
- Lynn showed a very deep cave dive thirty meters down she did in Cenote Cave, Mexico which was her first cave dive and looked scary.
- Tony gave us A Moment in Margate. A scene across the harbour of calm sea and sailing boats.
- Mike gave us ‘A Reimagined Jackdaw’ in vibrant colours which he took during lockdown. He was working with Affinity and used some filters to gain this amazing image.
- Steve Allsop had entered an abstract image using coloured straws he had bent into a pattern. He also had an excellent shot of a Kingfisher he waited ages to get.
- Paul Benham put in a beautiful image of a ballet taking place in a ruined building called ‘Dancing in Decay.’
- Peter entered a special high key image called ‘Snow Dog’ which was of his daughter’s dog after it had been rolling in the snow.
- Steve Gunn showed the pecking order of lunch with an image titled ‘Jackal waits for the scraps left by the hyena.’ This was his first Safari and was it was interesting to see the understand the Lion ate first then the Hyena then the Jackal, and finally the Vulture.
- Martin had entered a striking image ‘Vancouver golden hour’ which he took on his first business trip to Canada.
- Stuart liked the children in a square in Vienna playing with large bubbles put out by an Entertainer. He had to capture the happiness displayed by all in the square.
- Neil entered an image taken at Expo 2020 when he worked there. He told us there were about one hundred and sixty Marquees with photogenic events happening in them.
The one he chose to show us looked space age with a room within a room and a figure walking through it. Neil said he likes to include a person in his image to show the size of the rooms displayed. - Tami showed a Zebra she had included in a picture book she had printed that had been admired by people at a Be Inspired group.
- Kathy was unable to come along but had entered a Derelict House she has watched slowly decaying. She had taken the image some time ago but now the building has lost it roof. She said she wondered about the story behind the house.
- Chris Andrews put an image of Brill Windmill which again had been photographed as a change of weather occurred providing a striking background to the scene.
- Paul Mee entered ‘Via Newbury Park’ A platform with two trains standing either side of the platform which was completely empty. He had said previously, he had waited a long time to get that image.
- Lastly Brian had entered an image of ‘Violetta’ which he had taken some time ago when he joined in a collaborative fashion shoot with hairdressers, make -up artists, stylists and models present. It was in a former industrial factory space and each photographer had brought their own lighting. He was able to shoot a number of models in different set ups, sometimes for just a few minutes and others longer.
I hope to have described the work accurately and you enjoy catching up with this if you have been unable to come along.
