Hi Folks,
Photography Appraisal Night, Tuesday 7th March
Last night, members had the opportunity to bring along their images on a memory stick to ask for guidance and help from our club’s experienced photographers and our own judges. There were four work stations set up each with a laptop and members could join in with their images on any of the work stations or just watch and listen to the advice given on any of the member’s images.
I joined Chris’s desk and had eight images that I wasn’t too sure about and was hoping to get a yes or no verdict for competition on some of them. However, Chris went through them all giving advice and pointed out some faults that I never realised were faults lol.
I really picked up some good information. Some images need improvements others just couldn’t be improved at all due to too much white in the pictures. Chris had a look at my camera and found the exposure was set at +1 perhaps from a past practical session and corrected it for me. So I will have to watch out for that next time.
Chris had a package called Topaz which amongst other things checks out blown areas of an image. So with a little lowering of the brightness in the highlights on a couple of them I should get a better image. Others images just needed a better crop to tell a story so I am on to that one.
I’m sure members received good information from the other three workstations but I came away with some useful information and can’t wait to work on the images before the next round of the competition.
It’s all subjective of course as Chris was not keen on one of my images yet another expert looking over and produces images in a similar style loved it but will the judge lol.
Thanks to Chris and all who helped out last night
Next week is the
