This seasons first ‘Winner on the Night’ competition started well with sixty-nine images entered the competition.
The judge Mark Buckley – Sharp from Harrow club was invited to critique each image without giving a score, and to hold back a number of images for a final First, Second, and Third, and then some highly commended and commended.
We are trialling this way of working to see if members prefer it to getting a score as they can concentrate on their critique rather than worry about a number.
The judge commented on the high standard of images he had observed on his first run through from our club.
Mark managed his time well and gave short but informative comments on all images.
As usual there was a splendid variation in the images, ranging from Seascapes, and Landscapes, to Meadow Brown Butterflies, local windmills, Portraits, two which were taken on one of our summer outings, and some amazing wildlife including a Pelican flapping his wings, an Egret with an evil glare, a Stag coming out of the river and a baby Zebra yawning. Alan entered some quirky images, Barry a spooky glass of liquid that was smoking while Chenxi was smashing some glasses.
.
Mark said that he had a heard a quote that said a “good photograph is one that starts a conversation” which may be something to bear in mind when entering our images.
