Tuesday 22nd July, a group of fifteen people from ImageZ went to visit Wotton House.
Wotton House is a Grade 1 listed building in the heart of the Chilterns area that was built between 1704 and 1714. Its design was similar to the contemporary design of Buckingham Palace. It is not usually open to viewing, limited public access is possible just one afternoon a week during the Summer.
The House was very large with spacious grounds which we were allowed to walk around. Originally laid out by George London and Henry Wise there is a formal parterre and a double elm avenue leading down to a Lake.
Fifty years later William Pitt the elder and Capability Brown improved the landscape and added two more lakes. The house is now owned by David Gladstone.
Mick and his wife Sarah who look after the house gave us a very informative guided tour.
We walked around the lakes where Swans, Ducks and an Egret were swimming. There were many very old trees, one in fact twelve hundred years old and some sadly had boughs broken due to old age.
We were able to take many photographs, and the evening ended with a gathering inside the house with wine and soft drinks.
A very enjoyable evening and we look forward to the next Summer Program item.
Thank you to Kathy who organised this evening for us.
