20th January 2026
Last night was the third round of the five round Club Challenge.
We had two sections, one for open images of any subject, and a themed round with the theme ‘Abandoned’.
Our judge for the evening was Colin Mill from Milton Keynes City Photographic Society.
There were twenty-two entries in both the open and themed sections. There was a broad selection of images ranging from Street, Portraits, Action, Creative, Wildlife, and Local and London historic shots.
Colin took time over his critique and awarded the following images high marks:
- We’re closing in – Steve Gun – 20 and Judges choice
- Stripey – Carol Haines – 19
- Focused – Sue Brown – 19
After the break we continued with the theme section; Abandoned.
There were many creative interpretations of this subject which included Empty Graffitied Housing in Manchester ,derelict farms , a ruined church, old boats, a forlorn lady sitting alone, a world war two tank , and a little boy holding a sign indicating he needed a home.
Colin felt some images would have worked better converted to black and white, and some images needed a crop to improve their composition. He commented on some as well seen and simple images. Colin liked the misty atmosphere of the winning image.
The following marks were awarded.
- Abandoned Cottage – Derek Green – 20 and Judges Choice
- Home needed due to rising cost of living – Peter Carter – 19
- Where prayers fell silent – Steve Gunn – 19
- Disconnected – Damon Mitchell – 19
- High and Dry – Tamy Nunley – 19
Well done to all the high scorers, and thank you to Colin. Also thank you to everyone who entered the competition.
