17th February 2026
We had twenty entries for our themed round which was Connection in this Winner on the Night competition.
Our judge Alan Taberer explained that he was looking for an example of Connection that was the main focus of the picture and not a subject that perhaps had a tenuous link to a connection.
There were many interpretations of a connection including animal scenes such as a mother seal kissing her pup, a monkey feeding her baby, two moorhens having a battle, an engineering connection close up of train wheels, roads leading to other parts of town, train connections and viaduct connecting walls. Also, of course connections between people.
Alan gave a positive and detailed critique delivered in his humorous, direct style.
The six members that were held back were given commended and highly commended results plus a first, second and third image. The results were as follows:
- Damon Mitchell – Shared Moments – First
- Steve Gunn – Skin to Soul – Second
- Steve Allsop – Viaduct Connections – Third
- Alun Morgan – Phoning Home – Highly Commended
- Peter Carter – Eye Contact – Commended
- Steve Allsop – Holy Island Causeway – Commended
After our break we had an Open Print Round when some lovely Prints were entered.
Sixteen prints were submitted on a variety of subjects, Portraits, Wildlife. Church and Cornish Mine ruins, Sports Action, a dangerous looking duck, two London scenes, and two highly creative images, and an army scene.
Alan took time to explain his critique off advice and consider the images carefully.
He was impressed with a very unusual three sided mount on the Grass Track Races pint.
The final results were:
- Caroline Petch – The Watchful Hunter – First
- Brian Worley – Grass Track Racers – Second
- Brian Worley – Alicia Amongst the Lavender – Third
- Tami Nunley – Fleetingly the Sun Breaks Through – Highly Commended
- Lynn Day – Heron in Flight Highly – Commended
Well, done to the Caroline and Damon who both came first in the rounds. To Brian who achieved second and third in the printed competition, and all the other people who achieved awards.
