Hi Folks,
On Tuesday evening we had a black and white competition which was judged by our own club members. However, it was our own ‘in house’ judges that started the evening by giving a critique talk on each picture before our member’s voted. It was interesting, as one might not agree with what some of the judges said but it was very helpful as we had all three judge’s points of view and even some of their comments did not agree.
There were 29 entries including two prints but would be judged together
There was a lot of constructive talk on each picture so I can really just pick from some of the top voted ones.
I don’t have any individual scores but will try and get them later so at this point in time I only know the top four
The first of the top four pictures was titled
Raindrops at Croome
A serene photograph which had been well thought about. A good bit of interest in the sky and raindrops on the water said Julia. Almost needed the sound said Alan a nice feel to the reflections in the water, balanced nicely with the softness in the reeds. Kathy would just have liked a little more contrast
Next picture to make the top 4 was titled
What you look’in at
A great moment captured with the camera. The author has got down to the level of the chimp and quite a lot of background, a cool piece with negative space that works well.
The Next picture to make the top four was titled
Through the ice
Well spotted and captured well by the author with the reflections of trees amongst the lovely detail in the ice
The next to make the top four was a print titled
Cool running
As it was a print members were asked to go and view it and judge it on the print rather than the projected view. The Judges said the quality of the print was lovely with the textures in the wood beams and water coming out well.
Each member was given a sheet to score on but could not mark their own entries. Once sheets were complete the scores were entered into a computer and an average score was compiled for each one.
Chris read out the result as follows
The final result was a tie for first place
