We are all gradually getting used to the new way of working through Zoom. The practicalities of our planned ‘You be the Judge’ evening had to be adjusted by our tech admin – Chris Andrews with some special computer coding to help the process from his talented wife, Annie.
We gathered around our individual screens to view all the entries sent in my members. Two of the club’s experienced judges (Kathy Chantler and Alan Taberer) gave a short critique on each image. Then, after a final run through of the images, it was time for the members with pencils and paper at the ready and their Judges hats firmly in place, to make their choices and vote for a winner.
Whilst most us had a break for a cup of tea or something a little stronger (no-one had to drive home) Chris was hard at work adding up the scores sent to him through Zoom – that kept him busy for a few minutes! Members had each scored their top five images which were spread across all the entries. However, a clear winner emerged with others not far behind:
Overall Winner was Barry Coxon with ‘Heart of the Flower, 2nd was Tony Cashen with his image, ‘Ronald Howard’ and joint 2nd Davis Gibbs with ‘Storm Clouds Gather over the Fells’. In 4th place came Jan Dell and her image ‘Guinness is Good For You’ and in 5th position, with ‘To Infinity and Beyond’, was John Timbrell.
It was a successful evening with all members being in the judge’s position and getting a feel for the complexity of a competition. Very well done to everyone for entering into the spirit of the night and joining in so enthusiastically.
