CACC Rosebowl Competition 2022 Round 1 – 9th Nov 2021
Last night, ImageZ competed against three other clubs – Northfields, Maidenhead and Oxford – in their first round of the 2022 ‘Rosebowl’. There were many outstanding images on show from all clubs judged by Sandy Watson, who had the challenge of separating out the varying degrees of excellence from the sixty images entered, which are all likely to have scored highly in their home club competitions.
The selection team for ImageZ comprises Alan Taberer, Julia Cleaver, Kathy Chantler, all experienced CACC judges, plus David Gibbs and Brian Worley who are both talented and critical photographers. Once a pool of ‘suitable’ images was agreed the final selection had the added complication where no more than four may come from any one author, plus we needed a balance of content with no single genre dominating. A group of fifteen images was selected and entered, none of which may have been entered previously into any Rosebowl competition. As you can imagine, with five opinionated individuals, there was plenty of lively discussion! Decisions reached and images entered.
Last night’s Zoom meeting was efficiently hosted by Northfields with no technical glitches apart from the judge’s microphone – it sounded at first like he was gargling soup! Although some critiques were rather brief, the scoring seemed fair and balanced with quite a few images ‘held back’ so it was difficult to see how scores were progressing across the teams. I knew we were doing well by the scores given and the number of images held back, so it was quite nail-biting!
However, all teams agreed on the final scores and ImageZ had WON! Final scores were:
Northfields 250, Maidenhead 255, Oxford 256 and ImageZ 263
The three highest scoring ImageZ images at 19 each were ‘Half Full or Half Empty’ (Kathy), The Solitary Figure (Julia) and ‘Elegance’ (Kathy); in addition we had 6 images score 18 each, so a great start to the competition. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this success and that includes all of you who put images forward for consideration and joined the zoom meeting to ‘wave the ImageZ Banner’!
Our next round is on Tuesday 7th December when ImageZ is the host club – this is our usual club night, so please join the Zoom meeting to see how it works out; competing clubs are Leighton Buzzard, Ealing & Hampshire House, plus Banbury. There is no room at all for complacency!
