The ‘It’s a knockout’ competition took place on zoom last night which was very wise as temperatures had dropped to -5 outside and the streets were glittering. We had great attendance, the highest we have had on zoom so far this year.

Twenty-nine members had entered four images each, which totalled one hundred and sixteen images. These had been paired up and members were asked to vote for their favourite of each pair. A quick voting system had been arranged by our two technical wizards Brian and Chenxi, and we were soon voting through the first round. There were seven rounds and voting got steadily more difficult as each round came up.

There were many lovely images including some Christmas themed entries. Competition was fierce as the stakes narrowed down to some excellent photos you were asked to decide on. This gave all members an insight into what the judges have to do in our regular competitions.

Some outstanding images which got to the later rounds but did not win were ‘Bottle of Ink,’ ‘Kestrel Hunting,’ ‘Ali’, ‘Walking with Giants,’,’Bee with Pollen on Hollyhock,’’ Tate Modern,’ and ‘Titanic Museum’.

The final round saw ‘Broken Sunset’ and ‘Talking through the Work Order’ up against each other. It was an extremely hard choice.

Broken Sunset won by 65% to Talking through the working Order 35%.

Congratulations to Steve Beckett for coming second with his very atmospheric image ‘Talking through the working Order.’

Big congratulations to Amanda Hawes for her highly creative image ‘Broken Sunset.’ Amanda has now won this competition for the second time. Well done, Amanda.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening thanks to Chris and Kathy who organised the evening and Chenxi and Brian for making it possible at short notice .
