Imagez Club Night – Location Challenge Results
11.4.23 Attendees Approx 30
This week’s challenge the members were given was to go to the location of Wendover or within a mile radius and to fulfil four tasks. We had been set this challenge three weeks previously.
We had to take a photo from a Worm’s eye view, from a Birds Eye view, something Old and something New. Each category was marked separately, and the scores were added up to see who had the highest overall scores when added together.
Micki Aston was our Judge for the evening, and she began by telling the audience that she would judge this as any other competition. She was looking for the photographer to have fulfilled the brief but also to have provided a set of photographs that were impactful, had a good composition, technique, and creativity.
The Birds eye round included two photos of Wendover Station, Micki said she felt these lacked a little creativity and would have liked to see trains moving and motion blur. There were two landscape photos both with good composition and clarity.
A very impactful image of light trails from the bridge over the bypass with lovely light trails.
A worm’s eye view featured a view looking through the grass, a low view of St Mary’s Church, an interesting view of a pond looking across to the Church. Micki said this image had a nice feel to it.
There was a very good image of a wooden bridge with excellent textures looking along the bridge from a very low perspective .This was a mono image with sepia tones and had a lot of impact .There was an image taken from a low position on the road with cars looking like they were coming towards the photographer .Micki added extra point for risk taking .She added she didn’t want anyone to die for their Art. Another image featured some lovely cowslips in the Community Park. Also a low view of an old roller in a field, which featured a wonderful sky taken with a slow shutter speed. This was called “Don’t squash me.”
The subject of Old featured quite a few images of St Marys Church from different viewpoints and an amazing stain glass window with lovely lighting Micki added. There were two old vehicles with good colour and a lovely juniper tree image. There was also a very nice shot of the Red Lion Pub and an old derelict farm building which was taken from an unusual . A graveyard scene again in mono was another very good image with great lighting.
An image that had a lot of atmosphere was Ghosts ‘inn’ the White Swan and showed an eerie image sitting in the distance.
The New category featured an image of HS2 called A Scar on the Landscape, and an image of a selection of Cheese being sold in the Delicatessen in the High Street.
Micki took some time examining the Cheese and said she would like to visit the shop. A beautiful flower with a white vignette that Micki particularly liked. An image called ‘New Paint’ showed a cottage with nice white walls with lots of texture.
There were many creative interpretations of the titles and people had worked hard to get images.
