6th JULY 2024
The long/medium weather forecast for Saturday was looking Okay. They lied!
Not deterred, eight of us gathered outside the barbican underground station at the arranged meet time of 10.30, just as the rain arrived! We set off towards the Barbican with various methods of shielding our cameras, tucked under coats, umbrellas, or plastic bags.
At the Barbican we walked along the high walks, luckily this was mainly undercover, and we soon got into taking our pictures. The rain showers came and went the rest of the morning, but generally we managed to miss most downpours.
This is the route Chris planned, there were many stops along the way.
At the Guildhall the rain really came down, so we took shelter for a while. Of course, the rain gave a different perspective, especially reflections, and there were certainly less people around. And, as Chris commented ‘we were still smiling’.
About half way round we decided to stop for a lunchbreak at a Pret A Manger. Coincidently a group from Leighton Buzzard camera club were also on a photo walk in the same area. Luckily for us, as they vacated their seats we grabbed them and were able to sit together. After lunch the weather had improved and we got sunshine. The rest of the afternoon was sunshine and showers, but we did have glimpses of blue skies and some pretty cloud formations.
Another bonus was to see Tower Bridge open. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it open.
Special thanks to Chris, I lost count of the amount of times he did ‘headcounts’ on the walk. “Herding cats’ comes to mind. There must be a suitable word for a group of photographers! Seriously though, this is the third London walk Chris has prepared and led, not forgetting he walked it through beforehand in the planning. We are very lucky that he is willing to do this for us, and also share with us little hidden areas and excellent vantage points. In all we covered about 7 miles.
A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR CHRIS!
