Competition – ImageZ Challenge Trophy Round 1
Theme Green and Open 26/10/21
Attendees 33
Round one of the Trophy Challenge got off to a good start with a total of seventy-four images entered. The evening, split by a five-minute tea break began with the themed round Green and then continued with the Open round.
Green had been explored in many ways, from single plants to
landscapes of green countryside, a trug of vegetables, bouncing green peppers in water, smashing glasses full of green liquid, a boiling potion in a martini class, and a green-eyed monster in the shape of an old wooden stump with a face and a green eye. Sarah had submitted an image of old car tyres tied to a stump on the beach covered in green algae with an excellent title of ‘Tyred and Worn Out.
The green environment issue had been included by using cans of beer and a nice image of a wind turbine by David Jones.
The judge Colin Strong from Potters bar, gave a very fair and measured critique to everyone which included a little humour. His advice was very astute, and finally he chose five images which were awarded nineteen and twenty. They were as follows:
Witches’ Potion Barry Coxon 19
Crossed Palms Kathy Chantler 19
Peas in a Pod Peter Carter 19
The Crayon Peter Carter 20
Crawling on a Green Leaf Chenxi Ni 20
Well, done to all especially Peter with two images held back.
The Open round had as usual a great selection of images, a high key image of Zebras,(Sarah) a Pheasant with wonderful colours (Nick) Two Ice creams with a muted beach scene in the background (Steve A) a circle of crayons (David ) a Viking in the water ready to fight from (Steve B), a very tame baby squirrel sitting on a hand (Derek) and an amazing abstract from John T which Colin admitted that he had been trying to achieve this type of image for some time. There were many more interesting images and Colin commented at the end that he had really enjoyed looking at our selection of pictures. One of the comments that came from Colin was ‘that as the photographer we need to lead the observers eye to the subject of our pictures, to distinguish the story we are trying to show.’ A good piece of advice .
Finally, Colin picked seven images to hold back, and they were as follows:
All at Sea Chris Andrews 18
Ring of Creatures Kes Ward 18
Closing in for the kill Steve Beckett 18
Vintage Hollywood Steve Beckett 19
Vertical corner and Window John T 19
Sunset at Pitstone Windmill Chenxi Ni 20
A gift of Sunflowers Kathy Chantler 20
Very well done to all the people above, and a big well done to all new members who submitted images.
