Last night was our penultimate meeting of the season. The theme of this evening was Best of the Best, and members were asked to vote for the image they felt had been the best of the year after our judge Peter Cox had critiqued the images and selected twelve from the open rounds and six from the themed rounds.
During the evening, we viewed every image from all competitions that scored nineteen or twenty points, or had been placed or commended for competitions that are not scored.
Best of the Best – Open section
In the first half of the evening Peter from Tring Photography Club was tasked to critique seventy-nine images drawn from the open competitions this season.
A challenging task which he managed admirably. There were a vast number of images with all different subjects. Finally, twelve were chosen.
Best of the Best – Themed section
After the break Peter chose six images from twenty-three images gathered from the top scored results in our Themed Competitions across the year. This was much harder as now these images that were submitted for a specific theme were judged irrespective of their original theme.
Peter picked out six giving clear critique on all images explaining why he had picked them to go through.
One last stage saw the member decide the best images from both categories from the pictures selected by the judge.
Best of the Best – OPEN and OVERALL
Every member was allowed one vote to choose their favourite image from the 12 images in the open section. The show of hands was clear with Barry Coxon’s Hoverfly on an Agapanthus Flower the winner.
Best of the Best – Themed
Members were then asked to select the best picture from the six images from the Themed section. The Themed section winner was Stuart Craig’s I Saw Three Ships…
These two best in class were images were pitted against each other for the overall Best of the Best winner, and the members selected Barry Coxon’s Hoverfly on an Agapanthus Flower.
Well, done to Barry Coxon, and also also to all the members who entered competitions and scored highly this season. There were 34 different members who had images in this best of the best competition. A clear indication that the club is encouraging members to join in and improve their photography with useful critiques throughout the season.
