Hi Folks,
Last Tuesday night was the first of the ‘winner of the night’ competitions for the new season. There was a massive 72 images presented for the competition and the judge for the evening was Paul Burwood from Field End PS.
Paul had a run through all the images first
The first image to be held back was titled
Dancing Pelican by Chenxi Ni
Paul thought it was a wonderful shot and loved the textures and detail in the feathers. Also liked the shape of the bird and it’s reflection in the water
The next to be held back was titled
The arching woman by Julia Cleaver
Paul liked the shape the woman was creating and the pale skin which still showed the textures
The Next to be held back was titled
Kingfisher preening by David Gibbs
Lovely detail in the bird which is doing something, so not just a bird on a stick. The photographer perhaps using a long lens rather than close up. Nice dark areas in the background and sharp head and beak.
The next to be held back was titled
Ashness, jetty on Derwent water by Chenxi Ni
Paul liked the slope and colour reflections in the water. The rocks in the foreground are nice and sharp and the darkness leading the eye to the light parts in the distance. The end of the jetty needed to be lower as it clashes with the horizon.
The next to be held back was titled
Bilbao Guggenheim interior by John Timbrell
Paul loved the detail in the wall and a bold choice in monochrome which produce swirls and shapes which leads the eye to the dark and light.
The next to be held back was titled
The feathers by Peter Carter
Paul said wonderful shapes and wanted it held back
The next to be held back was titled
Waiting by Kathy Chantler
Lovely image and lovely lines, well composed and a strong image in monochrome.
The next image to be held back was titled
Reflections by Tami Nunley
Architecture like shapes. The designers of today are great, said Paul and this image has lovely strong reflections.
The next to be held back was titled
The aspiring starlet by Julia Cleaver
The star has the catch light is in her eyes with nice lighting. The black and white works well perhaps a little lighting needed in her hair. A key line is needed to pick out the surround of the image.
The next to be held back was titled
Vine weevil on rose by Chenxi Ni
Lovely detail said Paul I will hold that one back
The next held back was titled
Cigarette break by John Timbrell
The individual sitting is not aware or has not seen the photographer
The next to be held back was titled
A family day out by Kathy Chantler
yes all using I-phones whilst the lady looks on said Paul
The next to be held back was titled
(No title) Jaguar by Sara Jennings
Lovely colours on the animal, it has lovely sharp eyes and the composition works well
The last to be held back was titled
