A wealth of activity was on the program, with the second round of the CACC Rosebowl hosted by Harpenden on Zoom and the Archive Night in the hall. Members could choose which event they wanted to join.
Archive Night
Members could choose to enter up to three images from their archive and to tell a story about them.
The evening began with Carol who had three unusual entries, mostly surreal that were taken at Weston Turville reservoir. She had used an old image-editing tool called Picasa. This is no longer supported.
Chris followed with images that he had entered on Blip since 2012 when he first started blip. Chris went on to explain that Blip is a worldwide Photographic community where members share a photo every day making journals for themselves. Chris asked any members, wanting to know more to tell him later.
Steve Allsopp followed with an interesting image of an old Land Rover he saw and liked very much whilst on a holiday. It was colourful and made in 1955.
Edward had a wonderful picture of the Great Wall of China and followed it with a picture of a beautiful Chinese lady taken in 1974 who went on to become his wife.
Damon had a great picture of the Queen taken when she visited Aylesbury in 2012. She looked straight into the camera. He told us this picture had been entered in a book. He had also photographed Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon.
Neil talked to us about the ‘decisive moment’ in a photograph and had an amazing photo of Frankie Dettori, jumping off his horse after winning his race. As he said this happened in the blink of an eye and he learned in his job as sports photographer to get to the right place at the right time.
Steve told us a story of injuring his foot and having different advice from to two doctors as to whether he should go on holiday to Cambodia and Vietnam with his family. He went and had a super image taken from Ankor Thom that had been used in Lara Croft films.
Laurence took us up to Coombe Hill with stunning images of a sunset with starburst and a snowy image with beautiful, frosted trees.
Mike showed us an image of Cranes in the Mist and a view he saw down a small alley with a building called The Old School House. He found this view particularly pleasing.
Peter Carter had entered a lovely image of his dog who had been chasing sea gulls set on a calm sea and beach. His dog suddenly saw a gull in the sky and momentarily looked upwards. Peter caught the dog at that exact moment which made an excellent photograph.
Tony ended our evening with some splendid views of Ashridge House and Blenheim Palace.
I have highlighted a few images and stories from each speaker but there were many more. It was a delightful evening interesting, and members came together to ask questions, and applaud each speaker for their contributions.
At the very end of the evening, news came in that we had been successful with another win in the Rosebowl too.
