Challenge Cup #5 (Theme: Part of Something Big & OPEN)
This week we completed our fifth round of the Imagez Challenge cup, the last round of the league which included four previous rounds. The evening was as usual split into two parts, the Themed round before break and the Open round after the break. There were many interpretations of ‘Part of something big’ our theme. These included a Rhino’s eye, part of a glacier calving, a stairwell, the view of a mountain from Cumbria National Park, gargoyles, a powerful Atlantic wave, plaits of rope, rolls of hay, a translucent leaf and a page from a book of which there were six volumes. Our judge Damon Guy spent time on each image and in an analytical way worked through each image. He commented on the “wonderful texture of the skin of the rhino” on the image ‘Aged the Rhinos Eye’ and “the eye being the way the animal expresses itself. He spoke about the “wonderful bends and curves” of the ‘Sopwith Camel Propeller ‘ Damon discussed whether some images had impact, the composition, image viewpoints, lines, and whether the correct depth of field had been used on some images. He spoke in a knowledgeable way, on the subjects of the images and added many helpful hints on technique, composition and story. Damon suggested carrying a small spray bottle when walking to photograph leaves or flowers, to add an extra dimension. Damon held back six images and they were as follows.

Damon continued with an excellent critique for everyone. Eventually he held back eleven images. Here are the images that scored nineteen and twenty.
