Musical
The theme for this fourth club challenge was Musical and this bought forward many interesting interpretations. The selection was varied and included, single performers, close studies of hands-on guitar strings and hands reflected in the piano. There were many keyboards and some sheet music.
“Memories of music gone by” displayed good older LP’s (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Animals, Pink Floyd) and a deck, from the days when Albums were called LP’s.
A statue of The Beatles with a real small boy joining them, and a dinner place laid up with Knives, Forks and Spoons on sheet music titled “Concert for Knives, Forks Spoons and a Soup Ladle.”
Scenes from a Summer Solstice, an Indian Musician playing in Ranthambore, an Austrian Duo, and Windchimes were others.
A head with headphones and musical notes floating above it, and a musician astride his guitar neck were two, more abstract images. The images were highly creative, and all members had given the theme a lot of thought.
Our Judge for the evening Terry Pollard, moved methodically through the images, offering comments on the sharpness, composition, exposure, arrangements, and creativity.
Terry held six images back and the results of this round was as follows:-
- Sam Knight – One Lesson Rock God 20 & Judges choice
- Kathy Chantler – Tis Music to My Ears 19
- John Timbrell – Prelude 19
Open
After the break, the Print round had fifteen prints entered.
We were treated to another broad selection of images featuring some interesting and varied subjects. A wicket being taken was the subject of ‘Howzat.’
“Friends Fishing” was another subject. A lovely picture of a frog in a pond looking over the plants had a painterly effect with soft pastel colours. (A Sign of Spring)
Bluebell Woods had been given a softened effect which gave the image an attractive abstract look.
A racing car in mid- air was a stunning subject called “We have Lift Off.” Also, a beautiful grey owl flying towards the camera was held back. A goat peering over the Fence was titled “Did someone say food?” There were still life two images featuring glass objects with light catching the rims of the objects creating beautiful, simple but very pleasing images. Terry studied the prints and gave an interesting critique of each one.
He held six images back.
